What is the yearly focal in Intel? I know it's a evaluation of your performance as an employee, but that's kind of vague. Is it also the moment to discuss about a better compensation? What's the % range they can increase your salary?
Can reach 9-10% for outstanding and promo... depends on geo and grade.
Yes. It is the annual review / promo / raise cycle. It it when you will get your merit raise and stock refresh. In addition to a performance review, you will get rated. You can be Improvement Required (~5%) successful (~70%), Exceeds Expectations (~15%) or Outstanding (~10%). Budgets for raises vary every year, but for a long time have been in the low single digit percentage. If you are IR, you will get 0, S 2-3%, EE 4-5%, O 5-10%. If you get a promo, increase ~10%. (Here us where everyone will jump in and say these numbers are wrong because once they got something different... while ymmv, these are a decent baseline).
Intel Focal is the Hunger Games. Good luck!
Focal is the most broken process at Intel. Other than how they handle senior leader bullying. Make sure you prepare your docs early nov and have a first chat.
^ true. Intel should teach a class in how to manage focal as an employee if they aren't going to change it.
Focal is the time of year when employees get shafted no matter what. You don't discuss about better compensation. You grab the peanuts they throw you and crawl back to your cube. You already get free bananas. What else do you want ?
🤣 yeah...total bs
Focal is a process of performance evaluation designed to humiliate good, hard working people, discourage collaboration and stimulate animal like behavior within the teams. It has been sold as ‘meritocracy’. Managers are getting trained in implementation of Focal in classes that are insult to intelligence and to basic humanity.
Intel claims it is a meritocracy based process, in reality it’s the company’s way of telling you “you’re worthless, just be grateful for having a job here!”
Intel focal is an utter waste of time - don't bother much about writing stuff since hikes and promos are predecided. Only thing to do to improve one's situation is to try and get out..I hope every focal that I'm not there with Intel next year when I see the sad numbers..they CAN afford to pay well if big guys decide to get lesser but that won't happen
This seems to be a common refrain that I am seeing in a handful of threads - if we pay our execs less, the workers can get paid more. While I agree that some packages like Murthy's are pretty crazy most execs don"t get paid like that. Say you took $10m each from top 10 execs and $5m each from next 50 (that's probably taking something like 1/2 the pay away, most others probably don't even get that much) that's $350m or $3500 per employee. Or, basically about the same as the focal increase that you complain is nothing. Changing exec pay may be a good thing, but it won't change employee pay.
I agree.. Getting out seems to be the best way have a respectable pay and annual hikes
When is the annual focal review in US?
2-3%
