Been applying to Microsoft on and off for 2 years now. Never even got to talk to a real person. With or without referral, no difference. Thought to myself its due to no experience at a large company. Joined Amazon 9 months ago. Applied for a few positions at MS recently, no response. I am looking for roles like cloud solutions architect, technical specialist, etc. Resume is on point, been confirmed by several successful candidates. US citizen, relevant experience, industry certificates and masters degree. MS is my dream company to work for (dont judge please haha) I’m out of ideas here. What am I missing? TC200 L5 YOE6
Their talent acquisition sucks. Only way I got interviews was by literally knowing a person with hiring power who could put a foot in recruitings ass. the on-site I made it to got zero feedback and I pinged the recruiter daily. Eventually the HM told a friend of mine I didn’t make it and that’s how I found out. Microsoft runs on nepotism and favoritism in my experience and recruiting is downright abysmal. Make friends with someone who has an open req for you.
Guess I’ll start schmoozing on LinkedIn then :/
Can confirm, recruitment is abysmal. I got my phone screen and the interviewer even said explicitly they would approve me to final interviews. I had to email the recruiter to get them to schedule my final round.
Geographic location?
I don't know why you are facing such a problem. Just get into any one of the hiring events and get the offer.
where are the hiring events and how can one find out about them?
Msft instead of waiting time on individual hires. Arranges the events where 80-100 people come in and 12-16 leads/managers interview you for 4 round. You can see the events on career pages. I was asked by a recruiter to attend one of these events. I came in for a free trip but liked the offer and team so joined here
Sorry but 6 YOE doesn’t cut it. Wondering how you got it at amazon
Kicking butt at Amazon too. Not a fan of the culture however. How many YOE do you think are required?
So 6 YOE usually SdE2 and sometimes Senior. Architect is usually Principal level, minimum 8 to 10 years in my opinion
They're stupid and online is a black hole. You need to meet a real person in the hiring pipeline (not a random employee).
MS recruitment doesn’t do well with so-called “industry” hires - college grads are much preferred, it seems. Try making contact directly with a hiring manager on LinkedIn.
Which campus are you applying for? The problem, I think, is the massive amount of competition. Not just externally, but also internally. Some managers prefer internal hires, some prefer external hires.
