What is the appeal of Disney?

As an employer...Seems like most people aren't paid very well, but a lot keep staying...What is Disney's appeal? Why are you still working for Disney?

It’s a Mickey Mouse organization. Avoid.

WLB, relative stability. It’s not horrible.

TC isn't everything. I'm here because of my love for the Disney brands. I was tired of startup BS. I work at Disney because I want to work on highly sophisticated technology used by millions of people. I am lucky to have a job that matches my medium term career goals. I love my team. I have a great manager. I get to work at an active movie studio instead of an office park. Could I make more money elsewhere? Highly likely. But while more money is nice, happiness is MUCH MUCH MUCH more important.

Think it’s due to benefits of Disney pass and also LTI’s.

Most people don't get employed in a better company because they can't.

WeWork siKx50 Dec 6, 2019

This ^^^^ I chose wework and amazon in the past because i had no better offers.

Disney nuro68 Dec 7, 2019

I am the first to say that if I was offered Netflix salary, I would jump ship immediately.

If you can leave work at 5pm and you got family waiting for you, this is more important than TC.

As with any large company, the experience may differ based on teams/departments/managers/etc, but for me it seems to check off all the boxes for what I look for in a job. I work on cool stuff, I have a flexible schedule and get to work remotely, teammates are awesome, I like my manager and upper management, and base salary is competitive. My should add a disclaimer that I too thought Disney paid shit but as a recent hire they seem to be at least offering competitive base salaries. You are not going to get those crazy RSUs or Netflix base salaries so if that's your number one priority, look elsewhere. The most important thing though is that the work life balance is 👌, so that means more free time to pursue my hobbies out side of work. Life is too short to be stuck working all the time. That said what I mentioned could be found at any other company so your milage may vary. As someone had mentioned, could I be working somewhere else and be making crazy TC, heck yeah, but could I check all those boxes that I look for in a job too, tough to say. TL;DR: my work life is great, I make good money, and I get to enjoy life outside of work.

What team or at least business unit are you a part of? And where is your manager based (if you work remotely)? I agree that I don’t necessarily have complaints about pay - but I don’t know a single person in my division that would agree that Disney promotes work/life balance 😕

Disney kylev Jan 11, 2020

I'm part of DTCI, Product Engineering. I'm not remote but my manager is based in Glendale. I'm sorry to hear about your experience in regards to work/life. What division are you part of?

Google yyJF57 Dec 11, 2019

because disney's dont hire H1b so its easy to get in less competition.

If you’re into the Disney brand then it’s a huge plus. I wasn’t, and wanted to get paid more... So I left. But I had a great relationship with my manager and made some good friends during my time there.
