I saw this chart online. I am now in the process to start my green card application and I am from Europe. Does this mean I wont get my green card in 10 years at least?
Yes, so call your senator, tomorrow morning!!! Everyone is working on that
CALL YOUR SENATOR TOMORROW MORNING. LAST CHANCE
One country makes everyone else wait sheesh
Yes, because everyone screwed one country all these years. It’s payback time!!!!
Smh
Hr1044 is almost dead in senate. Stop worrying.
I read some online article that the Indians are fairly confident this will passed tomorrow though :(
Yes, tomorrow is the big day. Last chance to call senators. Its going on a vote tomorrow. There was an ammendment to hr1044 and rand paul caved
@OP why are you so much worried about this ? You already got your GC And passport right?
What do you mean? I have EU passport so it’s good for me to travel. Green Card is better than work visa so I can leave Microsoft and join startup. Not planning to stay here long but don’t want to be constrained by H1b.
Omg. Just look at this. Greed only comes out when you have something to loose personally. Show some empathy towards people who have been in your hypothetical problematic situation for 15+ years already.
If this bill passes, people like OP will rush to apply for GCs because it is now or never. 15%, 10%, 10% of quota in the transition years is all you are gonna get for the next 10 years.
Why should your nationality decide how long you have to wait anyway?
Because Indian companies have been abusing the system?
And so other Indians who have nothing to do with these companies this must also suffer? Do you know what the wait times for a new EB2 for Indian origin are? Average of 40 years. How in the world is it fair to cap people coming form a 1.2 billion population with the save number of visas as those from much much smaller countries? Moreover the immigration system is not stupid. Everyone applying is vetted.
indian consulting firms represent low quality .
And what makes you say that ? Remember people are stuck in their jobs. I have some of my friends who came here on h1b from infosys are just scared of changing jobs because of RFE or denial. Which can happen even if you have offer from FAANG.
My perm was denied and I was issued an RFE on H1B when I was working for Apple as full time previously, just because I have a degree in electrical engineering.
Ridiculous, cheap labor will take away American’s job.
Remeber the reason they are cheap is due to the backlog, otherwise the number of new H1Bs coming in every year is still the same.
Also why so much obsession with a job? You're free to start a company and hire the so called cheap labor. (If it even exists). The freedom to get out of a job is exactly what these ppl want. It's so ironic!
Possible if this bill passes and you don’t get a priority date soon. Here’s how it works. ROW gets 15%, 10%, 10% of the quota in the transition years 2020-2022. They used to get 60% to 70% PER YEAR so they will be backlogged somewhere in 2020. And if you didn’t get a priority date in early 2020 the quota could be used up and you are placed behind the massive Indian & China backlog. That means it will take probably 10 years for you to get GC.
Lets say one files for i140 under premium processing this year. Does that likely mean they'd get green card within a year or two?
There are at most, 140K x (15%+10%+10%) = 51K GCs for ROW applicants in the next 10 years or so. If you applied after the bill becomes law you’ll need to be among the first 51K ROW applicants to get your GC within the 3 year transition period. So if ROW applicants don’t rush to apply for GC, then yes you will get it in 1 or 2 years.
