I’ve been trying to get on at MSFT on and off, for the last two years. I have MSFT references, have been sucessfully marketing Enterprise products for 7+ years, 15 YoE in mkg, but my resume is met with tumbleweeds. Give it to me straight. What is the secret to getting hired? Is working at a VAR detrimental?
Windows xp
Security clearance helps, if you can get one.
You need a software update
I knew delaying that update would come back to bite me
You should've never removed that USB drive unsafely
What’s VAR
It stands for Value Added Reseller
Microsoft does team based hiring and uses armies of contract recruiters; their experienced candidate recruiting apparatus is one of the worst in the industry. Even if you did get noticed, they'd be shoving you into random cattle call hiring events. For some inexplicable reason, their university hiring program is a lot better (that's also the only area where they tend to make truly competitive offers). It's really not you. It's them.
That’s mind boggling, thank you for sharing your insight. So, next step is going back to college!
"bad luck"
Apply for as many applications that you can. Every person I know who has done this has been hired.
Also try to apply for roles that aren’t necessarily marketing and transfer internally.

Apply?
Got this one covered. I’ve applied for over a dozen roles over the last few years.
A dozen? 2 years? It took me 40+ to do my first internal transfer. It’s a numbers game.
