If you are a good employee, you shouldn’t worry about getting promoted. It will happen. If you have a bad manager, that is another story. A good manager will follow company policy for promotion eligibility and make it happen for you...when you deserve it.
I agree many employees just focus on time spent in a level, but not the business impact and complexity of the business impact. Promotion means you have learned how to take care and deliver more complex problems consistently. Do have regular introspective, and discussion with your manager. And one more important point, don’t work for promotion rather work to learn and make bigger business impact and growth will follow you.
Thanks guys. Unfortunately hard work and sincerity and skills are not the only things required to grow. It’s your relationship to your manager that matters the most and eventually we have to make a call on what’s good for our career. Do your best but then everything needs a expiry date.

If all those guys are better but not promoted, then dont expect your manager will let you jump the line.
