I am asking this question because, software development process is already standardized and there is very little scope for process innovation. If you look at all the examples of Amazon process improvements in the media, they are all on the business side. I am afraid that most of the improvements that I can come up with, from my work experience, may get mapped to SDM L5, since they are from engineering side.
Think about project specific process improvements, not just generic engineering processes like code review, design, etc. E.g A specific type of issue that was a customer pain point, took long time to discover, debug and fix. You may have driven deeper instrumentation, monitoring of the system and operational process improvement to discover and act on problems upstream. You can also talk about technologies that resulted in significant business process improvements. E.g Reduce/Eliminate the number of manual steps, reduce the number of systems your customers have to use, reduce rework and do on. Depending on the field the examples are unbounded.
I don't work there, but I imagine you are correct with your suspicions. They would expect you to have more than just knowledge of best practices and process, but practical experience and challenges implementing them. A seasoned manager will have some experience with failure and materialized risks and will have demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity.
You would be surprised how standardized lack of standards are. Improvements are not so much about evolving a standard as they are about getting "back" to discipline!
