What company would open more doors, have the better learning opportunities, has more interesting tech stack/work? Amazon is Alexa Shopping team Snap is monetization/targeting/measurements if that matters
Both are the same. It would depend on what you did in the role.
Oh shit how is Root? FWIW Root rejected me so I went to Amazon lol. (I dislike take home projects for interviews, so I didn't put a lot into the take home assignment unfortunately) I'm from Columbus though so wondering what's making you want to move
Was this for a new grad position? Surprised they didn't take you. Mostly looking for a change in scenery and a chance to work with engineers with more experience with distributed systems. Feel free to DM for more info
Amazon definitely looks better. Snap is paying a lot right now but don’t forget their past (1 year ago they let go of employee bonuses cus the stock was down a lot). The stock market is good right now so snap is fine, If there is any downwind, keep that snap valuation in mind. At Amazon, you can switch anywhere within the company. You like distributed computing? Move to AWS. Interested in hardcore supply chain? Move to retail. I don’t know about snap. However, amazon might have bad WLB depending on teams
Ignore this poll. Most of the votes are from Amazon employees trying to justify their choice to join Amazon, and they vastly outnumber Snap employees. (You will see this in "prestige" polls as well, when Amazon is voted ahead of clearly superior tech workplaces like Microsoft.) Snap is definitely a more selective, prestigious and higher paying company when it comes to hiring software engineers. Those are the most important factors on your resume in this industry.
Lmao, Amazon employees aren’t brainwashed. We know exactly how we are; how amazon is and where we stand. Half the shit being said is said by Amazon employees themselves. Thanks for your input though, Bloomberg
^ Your defensive comment perfectly illustrates my point.
Just check the proportion of people moving from snap to Amzn and the other way around. Hired and Hiring SDEs at both, numbers indicate snap wins. But small sample size. :-)
Snap
OP, do you know that Snap can pay you significantly more than Amazon (even if Amazon’s team had better and more interesting work)? Would you still wanna choose Amazon over Snap?
LOL at poll results
Snap would pay significantly more.
I think some of it might be eaten up by state tax and COL differences. Trying to decide if the remaining difference would justify any reduction in prestige on my resume if there is any difference
did someone say prestige?
