I always hear that there’s nothing to do in the Bay Area. But you can go hiking, cycling, all kinds of sports, concerts/raves, so many restaurants, museums, parades, Napa, Tahoe, Yosemite, Big Sur. So what do the other big cities have that SF lacks? Also since people are mentioning that they have to drive to those places, excluding Napa/Tahoe/Yosemite/Big Sur, all the other activites I mentioned can be done in SF.
The drive to get to all those places mean people don't want to always go out, etc.
Lots of people live south of the bay.
Also I rightfully question SF/Bay Area’s concept of “fun”. Okay so the museums and their weekly social nights, uhm is this fun? Its more like a novelty but not actually fun (compared to going clubbing on a weeknight in NYC as a high functioning “settled down” adult like an episode of Power, specifically to avoid the weekend Jersey crowd). The outdoors stuff is a chore to a lot of people if you’re not into that, or dont want to go to Marin and Half Moon Bay for the good trails, then what do you have left in SF? The food is on point. The raves are plentiful but you have to always keep track, there is no reliable but decadent party you can always roll into, Great Northern is the closest.
Thank you, this is exactly what I wanted to know! What are people’s ideas of “fun”? So one reason SF is boring is lack of nice clubs. Anything else?
Plenty plenty. “Brunch” being actual brunch that you have to stand in line for is not the move! Brunch in NYC, for example, means showing up to a day club at 2pm with a dozen women per table getting force fed vodka to chase down their mimosa. Miami is the same way. LA has a little bit of this with its own distance drawbacks. Obviously Vegas. In SF its just not an option, or its in a literal parking lot in the Marina, baby steps. Again, a party club thing and its just more fun when the option exists in perpetuity, no planning necessary. And I also cant trust the idea of fun, when everyone is so excited about brunch but we are really standing in line first thing in the morning hangry, to sit down and then actually eat brunch? 🤦♂️
compare to Seattle, bay area is the paradise
I guess some people are like Chihuahuas on PCP and need 24/7 stimulation?

The bay area has everything, but it's all far away. The people you meet are also likely to live far away. It's not the urban sprawl of LA, but everyone knows LA sucks too, so that's no excuse. Second, the people you do meet will tend to be more single track. Silicon Valley conversation is everywhere in the bay. The SF bay to techies is like Salt Lake City to Mormons. Not everyone's into tech and RSUs enough to like it infringing on their would be social time.
Sf is just uncomfortable for me. Infra is shitty so you need to take an expensive Uber to go drinking. Most night life ends at 2am max, friends are staying in so that they can get up early to write their blog post. People are stressed to make rent, balance ambitions/fam. It’s just not fun here. Not too mention all the Corp monkeys trying to climb up to justify their boring life.
How’s wework doing btw? 😂😂😂
If Bay Area isn’t shit, I don’t know what is...
Other cities have their attractions within city limits. No place else brags about everything you can do from the ocean all the way to the border of the next state as “in SF”
Besides Napa/Tahoe/Yosemite/Big Sur, the other activities can be done in or very close to SF?
Are any of those within SF City limits?
