Never sign the release letter in exchange of severance right away. Negotiate hard, give them hell.
Interesting thought, care to elaborate? Do we have any any leverage when we are getting handed the proverbial "pink slip"?
You can always say that you feel you are targetted, and lay off is being done on unfair basis. Ask them 3 months or double of the severance they are offering, even if you want to sign, sign on the last day.
Don't: show up after you got laid off or fired
Donโt tell your new employers that you are laid-off. They will either make a perception and not hire you or will lowball you.
Donโt panic, make a plan to prepare yourself. If it takes 2-3 months, give yourself 2-3 months. However start applying right away, ask them that you are available to interview in 2 months.
Getting laid off is business as usual, donโt overthink and make it a big deal.
how about, just be honest? if your previous boss was a psycho manager from amazon, just say that. if you were let go due to corporate restructuring or budget cuts, just say that. etc. you get the point. also never disclose that you were fired / laid off.
Dont disparage the last employer?? wtf is this shit? I say disparage the fuck out of them so that smart talent thinks 48 different times before joining them.
Add a tldr. And I know what I am doing if I get fired. I'm rushing to the hospital. Edit: for those who don't get the pun: Fired, like using a gun with bullets, hence hospital. ๐ Edit edit; Since ya'll don't like pun on "fired" When I get laid, the first thing I ask is if they have protection and if they r STD free. ๐
Why hospital?
Maximize health insurance? Prevent them from firing you by being hospitalized? Use hospitalization as a way to sue for wrongful termination? Canโt think of anything reasonable. None of the above or tenable positions
