What should i do now to grow more.. currently at 200K
I am currently in Bay Area with 10 Yoe and TC - 200K as Sr SDET and i am currently satisfied. In next 3-5 years, I want to grow to 400k or more, but i dont see QA Managers, Principal SDET 's making this much, So if i be in QA/Automation line, i may not be able to go there. So, my question is - Should i do MS in Computer Engineering and move to development roles and then start my carrer in development side. Or Should i do MS in Cybersecurity and move towards Security Experts etc or Should i learn AWS and do certifications and become AWS expert or something else, i am not able to decide what should i do/study now to grow to senior positions in next couple of years. I am average in coding and expert in automation as of now, but i can invest two hours daily for next two years to build some expertise in any line and then switch jobs. Any suggestions ??
Move to FAANG for starters. They have growth path inside the company (and just having their names on rรฉsumรฉ bumps your salary in the long run). I will talk on example of Amazon. SDET-3 (Sr.SDET) is the same level and job family as SDE-3 (same hiring bar too) and changing into SDM is a lateral move. There you have your 300K. SDM is one promo from Sr.SDM and two promos from Directors title.
Thanks, Basically you are saying, 1st - Switch to FAANG as a SDET only. 2nd - Change to Developer in the same company. 3rd - get promoted to DevManager or EngineeringManager role. Now, Q1 - Can i directly switch to FAANG as Developer by doing lots of LEETCODE or they will give me new grad role only as i dont have real dev expirience ?? Q2 - What is FAANG for starters? I need to change to software developer in any FAANG company.
Can you answer this question also- this is for my spouse. What is the probability of getting full time offer in bay area, if we do internship in seattle.. in amazon. He got Amazon internship offer for Seattle, but he want to get full time job in bay area only because we live in bay area
Senior SDET makes an average of 180K base in my company along with good bonus and stock options. Find a better company and increase your TC.
Principal SDET here and my TC is close to 400K/yr. Base is 240K. Hiring bar is pretty much the same here ( SDE, SDET ) there is no difference.
