I’ve been offer a product manager job at a firm that does custom enterprise and mobile applications for clients throughout a variety of industries in the midwest. I’m coming from doing product management at a large oil and gas company so I’m use to higher than average compensation due to the industry I’m in and crazy benefits. All that being said, I’m curious if anyone has insight into what an average salary is in a client based firm. I’ve been offered $125k cash comp with a 10% annual bonus but im unsure if this is high or low since I’m unfamiliar with working for a custom dev shop. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. #tc #product #salarycomparison #salarynegotiation #agency #productmanager #productmanagersalary
What’s your current comp?
I’ve spent 6 years in product roles - first at a startup doing enterprise applications for the oil and gas industry and I’ve spent the past 2 years working at a major oil producer doing all custom mobile development for their operational workforce as well as retail facing customer applications. My current cash comp is $185k and I’m located in Houston. My husband was recently transferred to Kansas City so I’m a bit unsure what is normal not only in that market but a non corporate employment situation.
dont price yourself on geography.
Don’t settle for that much less even if COL is a lot lower in the new town.

Specific country and city matters a lot for TC. Also depends on your exp and education. $125k might be decent for starting out in the industry, depending on where you live. And your experience to me sounds like it might be better in an APM role till you prove yourself in tech applications.
