I am a quite hard worker and always want to be busy with something related to work during work time. However, there are times when I don’t have anything to do and I get really bored. I don’t want to surf web or watch youtube during these moments because I am afraid if my manager would see it and think I am wasting time although he knows that I don’t have anything to do. I’ve told my manager multiple times that I need more responsibility and more work, but looks like at some point there is no more work to do. It’s been half a year I am at my current job and I already decided to move to FAANG as soon as I finish my first year. Any idea how to pass the next 6 months? What do you guys usually do when you have nothing to do? PS; I leetcode at my free time at home, I dont want to do it at work.

People really that afraid of their managers? If my manager comes by and I'm not doing anything I won't alt tab.
I alt+tab to my crazy EDM playlist on soundcloud
That is something personal, I am quite sure even if he sees me he would be ok. But I dont want to show a bad image to my manager.

Leet code?
Rewrite everything in a more exotic language
Refactor, try new architectures, write tests, analyze performance, automate manual tasks, security audit, and you can always suggest and implement your own features. How can there be nothing to do? You should be able to create value on your own. Figure it out before you try to get into FANG as you won’t be applying for internship and you will need to meet “expectations” and make “impact” even if the manager doesn’t have anything to keep you busy with.
