What to expect from Amazon SDE 2 offer?

I have 9 YOE and my current total comp is 200k at Microsoft. I am L63 and I was really hoping to get an L6 offer, but recruiter said I was approved for an L5 offer. Two questions: (1) What’s the max comp for SDE II in Seattle? (2) Is it worthwhile pushing the recruiter for an L6 offer? I am guessing the interviewers already thought through this, but I don’t want to have one of those “we will down-level you as you are coming in from outside” experiences.

1.) levels.fyi 2.) 🤷‍♂️, I haven’t heard of anyone successfully negotiating a level bump.

Microsoft NOTNOTL6 Jan 26, 2020

I did. 5 to 6. But had to onsite a second time for negotiating that.

Amazon test user1 Jan 26, 2020

Oh I see, did you reinterview right away or did you have to wait to reinterview?

Microsoft NOTNOTL6 Jan 26, 2020

250-300 for top tier L5 offers.

Amazon nncbsi72 Jan 26, 2020

Top of band for L5 is ~236.

Microsoft NOTNOTL6 Jan 26, 2020

That is incorrect. I got an L5 offer literally a few months ago for 275. My friend got one and accepted at 300. Look at other people post offers on blind.

Thanks for the info.

Same story here. I rejected the offer.

9yoe for 200k is very low. What happened to you at Microsoft?

Microsoft NOTNOTL6 Jan 26, 2020

200k is just what Microsoft pays for L63. Nothing against the OP. That's why I left MS too.

Ironclad ⌐(ಠ۾ಠ)¬ Jan 26, 2020

But for 9yoe, only L63. That's doesn't sound right.

63 to L6 would be nice, good luck

Thanks !

I did 62 to L6. Anything is possible.

Amazon zdps Jan 27, 2020

I had the same situation. usually pushing to L6 doesn't help. I pushed towards max L5 compensation. it's around 250-265k.

Microsoft TTnI60 OP Jan 27, 2020

Okay, cool. Did you have any other competing offers?

Amazon zdps Jan 29, 2020

I did, not from FAANG though

Microsoft no- Jan 27, 2020

Recently joined Amz from Microsoft as an L5 with ~275k(Austin), so 300k is possible with competing offers. I had two strong 300+ offers in Seattle.

Microsoft codingGuru Jan 27, 2020

Why did you choose Amazon 275K offer over your 300K offer?

Got lowballed - 150k $ base, 65k signing for year 1, 55k signing for year 2 and 90 stock units. I have a competing offer from Doordash - ~350k $ for E5. I am honestly inclined to take Amazon, but this looks terribly low to me. I will be happy if I get 200k bonus (over 2 years) and 150 RSUs. What are my chances to get this to go through?

Microsoft no- Feb 6, 2020

It all depends on how interested is your manager in having you, as anything above 240k requires sr. Manager and his directors approval.

Microsoft TTnI60 OP Feb 6, 2020

That’s tricky - because I spoke with no one from the team during the interview. It was a hiring event 😐 I will push for high end L5 offer, otherwise I will let it pass.
