I currently make $35k as a data specialist. I’ve had talks with my manager and director about not being challenged enough in my curent role and not being satisfied with my salary. They’ve voiced being determined to keep me here and help me find other opportunities within the company as well as increasing my current salary. After annual reviews, I was told I got an increase of 3% with the standard being 2%. My director previously informed me I’ve performed twice as well as anyone in my postion and that if I’m unhappy with my compensation to speak up. So I’ve asked for a negotiation in regards to the increase. With the information regarding my performance, what would you all say is a fair and realistic number to end on? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance! #salary #raise
What is a “data specialist”?
I collect and review data for a trucking company database, and I’ve recently taken on more responsibilities.
What does a data specialist do? In US $35k is what you pay for someone to label data or for admin work. If you do anything even slightly more technical, you're getting ripped off hard
What are your new technical responsibilities - we need to understand to gauge
Previously I just handled manual reviews of companies and did a lot of research. Now, I’m analyzing data pulled by our senior analyst for a monthly newsletter, as well as for special projects when asked by some of our affiliated magazines. I’ve also started working with our sales team to identify and implement product enhancements and new product ideas.
How are they benefits ? Are they paying for you to fully go back to school (paying for your degree)? Do they send you to training? Will they pay for certification courses? If not I’d ask for at least for 55k to be able to fund higher education.
Interview elsewhere, get offers and boom: you'll know your market value
Just curious are you on H1b?
Nope. Born in raised in Atlanta.
People really make this much with a degree?!?
3% is pretty good without increasing your scope of work.
How old are you? Do you have a degree?
26, been with the company a year, but have 3 years of related experience. No degree, but I go back May 1 and they’re aware of my plan.
I asked your age because you still have time to pull out a degree or certification, that will give you a greater salary bump than any salary increase.
Where do you live?
Atlanta, Ga
Ask for 55k and see what they say. If they don't budge at all, time to start looking around.
