I don't care about TC and wlb right now. What's it like at Tesla for swes in terms of complexity of work for the average engineer and the learning that happens? I don't have a PhD so outside of self driving is there cutting edge work for swes?

  • Heard it’s not a great culture there despite recent stock hike. I would stay away.

I just left the company and can tell you that it’s a horrible work culture. Compensation isn’t good enough (for the Bay Area) to make it worth it.

Managers are overloaded, most software engineers have no idea what’s going on, there is not product management, and the business users demand features that they don’t use.

The software is of exceptionally poor quality and the technical leaders are too busy to do anything about it. There’s also nothing interesting about it unless you’re really into cars or supply chain.

    My advice — skip it.

I worked on the partner and supplier team, but from what I understand, it’s like that across the board. While there, I heard rumors about people working on autopilot — 1 day sprints to accommodate Elon’s changing mind.

Stock was at 243 when I joined. Wouldn’t have been worth the payout for the waste of time.

Loving every minute of it. Could be that I got lucky and was placed in a good team.

It's a culture of sweatshoping and fingerpointing.
