What projects are based out of Boulder and is there a downside to working there compared to HQ TC 🥜
Satellite office is always less relevant than HQ: fewer opportunities for promo, fewer projects and teams to switch between, but also often less politics
It is a good location for retirement
I interviewed at Google in Boulder back in November, nice people, a little bit awkward to be honest, but nice overall. I think Google Pay, Chrome OS, and a couple of other teams are there. It has really nice views but honestly it's not somewhere I would choose to live over Seattle/Los Angeles/SF. Boulder is pretty expensive and you would end up having to commute to work. You also dont get all the big HQ perks. Less opportunity for growth. Standard field office stuff. I ended up going to a HQ job at another big tech firm because I want more of the college campus feel/growth opportunities.
Where did you go in the end? Did you move to / stay in CO?
I'm moving to Seattle/Redmond to work for Microsoft. Loved the HQ/500 acre+ campus. Lots of growth opportunities and has the college campus feel. I always have a direct on site interview available with Google (according to my recruiter), I figure I can always pivot to a Google Seattle team if I want to.
Google’s Boulder office is awesome. Brand new buildings with excellent views, good food, nice people, excellent WLB. Drive, pay, and chrome are the major teams there with a few other smaller ones around. Pay is definitely less than SF/NYC rates, but really high for Colorado. I’ve never heard of promo or projects being a problem there until you’re going for L6/L7 when there are fewer peer reviewers around to help. But that’s what travel is for.
Would you happen to know the pay range for L5 and L6?
Boulder has the real Mountain View
