I've always been intrigued by Miami. The tropics are calling!! I hugely dislike humidity, but that might be the price to pay for living near the Caribbean. What's the tech scene like? What's the dating scene like for people in late 20s? It's probably an improvement over Seattle? Also, what's the social atmosphere like? Floridaman might be an issue 😱
If you dislike humidity I don't think it's the right place for you bro
Lots of amazing cuban food , Venezuelan food, etc, also lots of Latin american culture and people. Great dancing and party scene. The water is warm and beautiful. I've never lived there but visited and I enjoyed it a lot! Not sure about the tech scene at all though
Tech scene isn’t so great really. But fun to live
Miami is a dystopian city that I find similar to South American countries - think culture/language and unfortunately corruption, and also violent crime. It's a beautiful place to live, if you land near the beach. As you move inland, it becomes a swamp (The Everglades), and you come across neighborhoods like what you see in Moonlight (a film accurately depicting the Miami Dade County poverty). Generally, the population is extremely superficial and fit, so there are plenty of beautiful people around. You may do well in relationships if you are also fit (workout daily) or extremely wealthy. And by extremely wealthy, think along the lines of those that launder money from Latain America. Be prepared to go out clubbing often and enjoy outdoor activities/sports or otherwise end up being antisocial. Weather - decent winters from November-April, but then hot, humid hurricane season starts. The "no umbrella" policy that Seattle prides itself on doesn't work in Florida. Heavy downpours perhaps 40-50% of afternoons/evenings, while you are stuck in heavy traffic. (Traffic is much worse than Seattle as there is nearly 0 public transit.) Outside of Floridaman, check out Only in Dade. Oh yeah, no tech industry to be found. As you can tell, I don't recommend it for long term living. I grew up in MD County and moved away for college. Now I come back to Miami for work approx once every one-two months, and I would never move back.
You have to make an effort to not run into call girls. The weather is great. If you take your 🐕 for a walk near the water, an 🐊 might snatch it. If you can coexist with the local wildlife, you will have tons of fun and get a nice tan. You might make more $ by peddling drugs or laundering 💵 than by making a living as a techie. You will feel really young when you look around. The wind might range from a gentle breeze to gale force winds, so a hair transplant is preferable to a wig. If the tie around your neck seems to be tightening every minute, it’s probably a Burmese python 🐍 looking for its next meal. If I were you, I would have animal control on speed dial before I set my foot there.
I have been living here since a year. None of this is true. Just make sure you are not living on the border of everglades. It is correct that there is no local big tech presence here but in post-covid fully-remote times, that should not be an issue.
One thing to remember is there’s no major ‘nearby’ places to go. Most major cities will be 3 to 6 hours of flight away. From Seattle you can go to Cali, Vancouver, vegas, Denver etc within a couple of hours.
On second thought, let's no go there. 'Tis but a silly place
I lived in Miami for most of my life. The tech scene is not comparable at all to other major cities. Many of the people speak Spanish and some only some Spanish. If you aren't careful and go to the wrong neighborhoods you will be robbed or killed. On the other hand the weather is nice and the women are beautiful and dress scantily. Stick to the well off areas and you will be fine. Also dont make a big deal about hurricanes. It's just some extra rain with high winds, stock up on extra food and water and buy a few guns are you will be fine.
Miami: old people, gays and Hispanics. Everyone wants to screw you. There is no way to get normal services, where they are not seeking to take advantage of you.
Everyone wants to screw me in a good way, or in the bad way?
As in take your money
