I recently moved back to socal from NYC and will be looking for a SWE role here in the next few months. Seems like most of the posts, TC discussions, etc on here are for bay area roles. What's it like to recruit for tech in socal? Easier? Way harder? Follow up: Who is out here? The list I've compiled so far: Full offices: Snap, Amazon (SD), Tinder, Hulu Smaller offices: Google, Netflix, Facebook/Oculus
The reason I axed is because each city has their own profiles.. SD tech rather underpays by 30%-40% while COL is close to LA/OC. More SV style tech in LA while OC and SD lag behind with legacy aerospace, chipset or biotech
Makes sense, I figured as much re: SD/OC. Didn't realize LA compared to SF though, that's great to hear. My current TC is 150k so as long as I can beat that by 15-20% I'll be happy. Are you a sales engineer? Did you apply to big tech in LA?
If you’re shooting for LA, 150k is very doable. OC/SD is possible but you’ll have to nego. or pick the right company. I’m more AE than SE. I’ve worked in both OC and SD. Although LA would’ve paid more, lifestyle is better in OC/SD, especially with kids and finding good schools
Where in SoCal? LA? SD? It’s a big area
All of it's fine, LA preferred but San Diego, Irvine, etc are good too.
