Crazy to me that Reddit only has ~ 900 employees
TBH, I'm surprised Reddit doesn't have less than 900 employees. It's a basic CRUD website with no technical or business challenges besides scaling CRUD and flagging questionable content with ML spam classifiers. Those are basic, widely solved problems.
The site is down frequently, apparently these problems are not solved for them
Why? 900 actually seems like a lot considering how concise the product is unless Reddit does a lot of shit idk about.
I’m surprised because Reddit is a top 10 most visited website
Sure but their main scaling challenge is uptime, which doesn’t demand a high headcount inherently. They don’t have real latency or real-time challenges at scale. Netflix was handling streaming video and taking up 20% of the global internet bandwidth with a few hundred engineers at one point.
Your number is off. We are at around 500
It has been great. We have lots of users but the company has only been in hypergrowth mode for the last 2-3 yrs. So lots of opportunities and interesting projects
It’s actually fucking great and we’re 500 not 900
I love it. Super smart people, great culture, we just got back from our annual “Camp Reddit” where everyone in the company spend a night together near Mendocino. Yes, we have a lot of growth to do but the future is bright and there’s tons of opportunity to make a significant impact.
Entirely depends on the discipline and the team

I doubt it. After all they let subs that are breeding grounds for literal right-wing terrorists with body counts stay up unmolested for years. At the same time they threatened to drop the banhammer on a left wing sub that said slavery was awful and worth fighting a war to abolish.
Sounds like you're one of them 😂
