The recruiter said it's half software engineer and half talking to Facebook partners/clients. Any idea what it is? Is the compensation different than regular software engineer?

It’s lower on the pecking order than SWE, so yes less compensation and lower bar. It’s funny how recruiter would beat around the bush instead of just saying second class swe

Helps build out advertising tools and solutions for large external clients. No idea if the comp is different but it's not a commission job.
Is it like Google's SETI that is very looked down at, and requires full interview loop to change to regular SWE?
Google SETI is not looked down, it stands for Tools & Infra, not Testing. It's now part of SWE ladder actually
