Currently interviewing for a role at Blizzard. Anybody have insight into their culture?
I heard from this guy who worked there a while back making just 3d models for weapons and they work you to death and encourage ppl to sleep in the office. Any ideas he had for the games beyond what the weapons looked like were snubbed he said.
Which were the notably good and infamously bad departments?
Not on a game team. Overall, excellent culture. Work life balance is indeed real. Can confirm that Battle.net is the exception to most of the Blizzard passion. It has its flaws, tough resourcing and not as magical as you might imagine ( some teams really have their shit together others are woefully under-water) Even so, I’d recommend it - except Battle.net - it’s toxic there: everywhere else has many redeeming qualities.
Why is Battle.net so toxic???
Maybe they need prescription drugs.
Overall the culture is great. Work/Life balance is really good, and the company does a lot of fun events for the employees. However your experience will really depend on which team you’re on. There are some wonderful people in the company, however I’ve seen certain teams breed a very toxic and uncomfortable atmosphere due to large egos in leadership positions. Hopefully you don’t get put on one of this teams.
