Looking at a new opportunity for SQL developer for health care company. HR wants 5 references to fill out surveys on SkillSurvey. I've never had to provide more than 3 references to a prospective employer, and HR always reached out to my references. And the survey process won't trigger until I get all 5 in the system. So if I can only confirm 3 references willing to do it ... ugh? Am I crazy or is 5 a ridiculously high number of references? TC: 60k [lowest in 4 years] CoL: 1/4 of Bay Area CoL

Agreed. If they need five references to judge your talent, they don’t know how to identify talent. You will probably run into other issue post-hire.
Tell them you only have 3. I would be surprised if they pass. It sounds like its a temp agency. They are the only ones who do these stupid surveys.
That is crazy. Even asking for references and contacting them or expecting feedback from them is outdated.
