At what point can a maternity leave start? And what would be the pay? I know in CA it is something like 5 months before delivery. How soon can a woman expect to start a mat leave?

  • Pregnancy disability leave (~2 weeks) before baby is born and maternity/short term disability/bonding leave after baby is born which ran parallel with FMLA. This was at my previous workplace.

I’ve never heard of five months before delivery lol where are you getting this info? I took four weeks before due date due to being high risk and then my company gave me 16 weeks, if you have a serious condition then your doctor can put you on leave before the 4 weeks and you’d have to apply for long term disability it’s not 100% your pay more like 65% and job May not be protected

  • I agree with Square, you can get leave that early if you have a very serious complication and are taking disability, but I wouldn’t count on anything beyond 4 weeks prior to due date.
