The traffic is crazy early in the morning around Cupertino and Sunnyvale. It feels like a waste of time to go to work early and spend like 40 min in your car (depending on how far you live from work). But some people / some teams come early and then it's awkward if you come later in the office. Thoughts on this? When do you guys come to the office and how far do you live from work? Curious about Apple in particular since I will start working there soon but it may be interesting to see what other companies/people think.
10.30
I usually come in 15 minutes late and sneak in through the side door. This way Lumbergh doesn’t see me. Then I go to my desk and space out for about an hour.
Drop my kids off at school at 8:30am and arrive into work by 9:30am most days. When people ask me to come in earlier for some meeting I explain why I can’t be there. When they joke that I could ask my wife to drop off the kids I joke back that my wife isn’t on the payroll and that they get MY time - not hers. But they are welcome to review her resume for any open positions.
Great answer! I’m a woman and when I say I can’t come in early for the same reason, no one ever suggests I ask my husband to do it. Funny, isn’t it?
In defense of the two men who made those remarks there was also a female manager who made the same comment. I think it is more a company culture thing than a gender thing to think they can somehow manage my personal relationships better than I can. They learn of problems and suggest solutions without thought to what it means. Just trying to overcome the immediate obstacle in their path.
11 and leave by 3
Usually ~9 ish (my commute is >1h). ~10ish when I drop off the kids at school.
10ish
Additionally, for those of you with kids, how have you factored this into your schedule and where you buy a house or rent?
