As the title says. I have been working as a software engineer for almost a year now. I really want to try for Netflix. Their website only listed Senior dev positions. When do they start the process for junior devs?
They don’t, they only want really talented experienced folks. I have friends that were PhD new grads, but they believed they were really talented. Point is, independent of experience, which still is very important, you have to show tremendous ability and/or experience. Thus, they don’t hire “junior” people. You have to prove yourself one way or another. And if you can, they’ll pay you a ton. If you want more context, read Reed Hastings famous slide deck. It terrifies most people, yet excites a smaller population. That’ll tell you why they don’t hire junior developers. Your best approach is to slowly improve your skills and gain experience, or really take strides to showcase your abilities.
Props to you, but it’s easier for you to work on becoming a Sr. Eng than waiting on Nflx to change. To give one example, there’s barely any expectation for mentorship. You are expected to ramp up and hit the road running by yourself. You’re expected to drive projects with little to no supervision. You’re expected to be assigned a project and be the only one of your team. Some Sr. Eng thrive, some fail and are let go. I really don’t see a jr. eng thriving. Just being real from someone that has been there.
How’s xactly, btw? Good/bad? Why do you want to leave?
Xactly is good. I left Xactly 6 months ago and work for Ebsco Information Services in Durham, NC. I liked my time in Xactly. Great culture! Had to leave because of personal issues.
Never
Thats very encouraging....
