I am a Solution Architect with 3.5 yoe in Bay Area. Currently working in GCP space. Wondering where can I take my career next? I don't want to be restricted to SA path. Open to switching roles. Also do SA switch to Product Management roles?
Really eager to know your thoughts on WHY you wish to move. I am thinking on trying for SA in AWS. My understanding is that its a good career to learn a lot and have client side exposure. Technical and - kind of - sales. I have three questions if you could please answer... 1. What exactly are you missing in this role? 2. What do you think you will gain in a different role that you wont sticking as an SA? 3. Any light you can throw on AWS vs Google SA roles? I have some AWS background and none of Google. Hence the desire to look towards AWS SA. Will appreciate some thoughts!
I feel I sometimes do the same thing repeatedly.. takes away the excitement at times n work gets boring
Ok. Thanks for the response. Can I ask what this role is called in google? Don’t think its SA. And also, is it possible to get in this role with about 10 yrs experience in other software dev roles, cloud/AWS understanding, but no Google or GCP experience? (I can learn the GCP basics before any interview) Thanks much!
How much do SA at Amazon make compared to SDE? Less or similar? How's an avg TC for someone with 5-6yoe L5?
☝️☝️Bump.
I would say it's similar to TPM/PMT salary band at the same level. Amazon SAs don't have variables (commissions or bonus) either. You get base + sign-on bonus (year 1&2) + RSUs. Search for Amazon TPM/PMT TCs on blind, and you'll get an idea. Of course it all depends on what you being to the table and how you negotiate.

Yep, plenty of SAs become Sales (most people I know), Product Manager, TPM, BDM, Professional Service, etc
