Where do people live in MTV/Palo Alto/RWC that’s not $$$$ or a dump

Moving to the Bay Area, and it looks like all the apartment complexes around RWC/PA/MTV are all terrible. I can’t really find a single place with reasonable rent and not negative reviews ranging from stolen packages, break-ins, rats/pests, homeless people on premises or homeless in stairwells, etc.

Am I looking in the wrong places for housing or at the wrong types (would SF be better contrary to my assumption)? Or is housing prices and crime across the board in the Bay Area just trash?

Coming from NY where there isn’t a shortage of quality housing, eg nice studio or 1BR for $2.5-3.5k/month. (Hoping to find something under $3k)

  • You can definitely get nice 1BRs in $2.5-3.5k range. Look at prometheus apartments. They have quite a few nice ones in Mountain View. For RWC, the new ones near Caltrain are pretty good.

      I heard the management at Prometheus was bad and they add on a lot of move out fees, but I suppose that may be the lesser of the evils 😅

  • In increasing order: Fremont, Milpitas, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Mountain View. All definitely within your budget and ~20-40 min shuttle ride

    Check out Irvine Apartments, they got several complexes all next to fb shuttle stops.

      Cool! Walkable as in 10 mins? Recruiter or relocation poc don't have any info about the stops. Where else can I find the route maps? Only after I join?

    • Yeap 10 mins tops. Shuttle schedules are probably down now, but you should be able to find info on them once you join.
