I currently work in South Bay, fiancee works near SFO. We can afford a 1.4mil house and are in our mid to late 20s. Where would you guys recommend neighborhood wise in the Bay area. So far our thoughts are single family home in East Palo Alto, or a condo somewhere in Mountain view. However the hard part is you either have a bad commute, shit schools, or are house poor. What other alternatives are there.
East palo alto is highly crime ridden area. Not safe buying a house there
Don't buy a house now; we can afford upto 2mil, but fear the bubble burst which is inevitable. Just stay in rental unless absolutely necessary. Wait till 2020.
Did you consider fremont, pleasanton or sunnyvale?
Sunnyvale maybe. The other two have bad commutes. No kids now. But will likely have kids in 2 years. Given the way prop 13 works would ideally like to buy more than I need to lock in my tax basis.
Fremont has good community for that price. Bart to SF and drive to south bay.
How did you calculate 1.4M?
Curious to know.
I've been pre-approved for much more given both our incomes and cash reserves
Pm if you you need an agent
Foster City ain't bad.
If you plan on popping out kids get a larger place. Otherwise get a 1 bedroom in the area imo. San Jose prices are growing so fast
Another alternative is just renting, and get a good commute and school. And it’s much cheaper than owning now
San Carlos has lots of new construction condos around that price
