Interned at Apple, starting soon as FTE (L3) at Google, not interested in working at Facebook or Amazon. I'm in a (sort of) niche field and I'm not sure my total compensation can get any higher than at Google (especially later at L5). What's the endgame here except for early retirement and / or founding my own start-up?
It looks like your endgame is reaching level5 at google not how many years of industry experience that is so not commenting on salary thing
New grad salary offer was ~175k, L5 should be north of 300k.
Meant to say TC, yeah. Not many companies hire for the kind of work I'm interested in, though.
Why not live a frugal 6 to 10 years at Google and then just retire in a low cost of living area? If you play your cards right at Google, you may get by working only a 30 hour week, while still pulling in make it rain/rest and vest money. It sounds like you're in your early twenties and likely had a long and hard internship. So you're well into your career, don't burn yourself out.
That's the plan so far, I guess
Retiring could be boring as many cannot find enough to challenge themselves without a big mission from a big company.

Your Security Engineer - Autonomous Vehicles actually sounds pretty interesting.
security team's pretty good
I had a friend he just ended up doing bug bounties and worked whenever he wanted. He got tired of that and got another job
Learn other skills while you're at google and make yourself more marketable!
Eh, it's not like I'm not marketable, pretty sure I could land interviews for most regular software engineering jobs (can handle everything from various assembly dialects to full-stack stuff), it's just that the field I'm in now is what I'm interested in.
Honestly mate, don't worry about it. The market changes, you change, opportunities change. In a few years you might be surprised at the options you have.
Probably, yeah. Just thinking too much about it during the holidays and it feels like golden handcuffs when I look at salaries at other companies. :)
This is the only right answer
Poor you, don't know what to do with your time and high salary
IBM is the next frontier
You stole my name.. I had to go with 0xcccccccc. Congrats on the offer. I'm in the same niche. Going to try to get into Cruise. Also your tc of 175k for l3 seems pretty low. Can you break it down? Did you graduate with a bachelor or ms?
Probably going to take 0x90909090 as my next one then, heh. Thanks! You don't happen to be one of the engineers who were fired during their talk? I'm not in the Bay Area (yet, who knows), TC is higher than anything else in that area. ~130k base, 15% bonus, ~15k RSUs/yr, ~10k signing / relocation. Got a MS.
That’s definitely not low for a new grad with BS or MS, at least for Google. The standard offer is around 155k. What do they pay new grads at Salesforce out of curiosity?

What is the appeal to NVIDIA?
What's your niche?
Security-related. Not many places for that and most of them are your traditional corporate environment, no thanks, worked in that kind of environment for far too long.
you worked at traditional corporate for too long but starting at Google at L3 (new grad, no experience)? Doesn't compile.
