We have been living in this area for 10+ years and kinda got bored with it. Looking for a change in 2020 and exploring our options for other cities in USA. Most probable options for a tech career (SWE) seems to be LA, NYC amd Austin. Not really interested in Bay Area. Reading this forum , it looks like LA has horrible traffic and newyork has stinky roads and subways. Anywhere else I'm missing with good commute , opportunities for swe roles and great weather.? SWE roles are everywhere, we all need to get over the elitism of demanding “tech centers”. I have a colleague in NYC who told me the other day he did projects in Ohio and Kentucky, and that he actually loved it and would return. I’ve done projects around the country and we’re everywhere. Cramming more of us into tech ghettos isn’t necessary. Rant over — you should go where you like it best. While you are in Seattle you need to travel as much as possible to find where that is. I was in Seattle for 2 years and I’ve bookmarked the PNW as a retirement possibility. Meanwhile I’m back on the east coast, because I don’t want to start thinking about retirement too much because it’s too soon and is distracting from real life.
LA is a shit place to go to
LA is not really a tech center
Los Angeles !! the tech scene is growing , commute is better....
Pune has good tech
Austin DOES NOT have good traffic or good weather.
Depends how OP defines good weather. It’s literally 77 and sunny in Austin today...one week before Christmas...
100F+ for 3 months in summer...
Try the bay, you may be surprised
Think about Atlanta. From your list Austin is a better option.
