In 1 year, I’ll be looking to move to a new city. Where should I go? I will be 25 with 4 YOE. I expect to have 700k or so in assets by then and my current TC is ~330k. TC and saving is not the priority now as I am young and have a good nest egg. As long as I can make money and advance my career, all is good. Options: Seattle: save money on taxes, still west coast. I love skiing and have friends here. I also have a car so this would be convenient. New York: partying, dating, city life. I’m not the biggest fan of NYC life, but it could be good to try for a year. Not as many close friends here as Bay Area or Seattle. Singapore: explore Asia, learn about SEA tech. I am really excited about spending time here but it could be randomizing and bad for career. I have no ancestral ties to Asia which is why coming here while younger is appealing. London: explore Europe, learn about European tech. I am European so it can be a good opportunity to meet more of my brethren. Again, might incur a TC hit, although I know friends who have gotten solid offers (250k or so). Other: comment Immigration is not an issue as I have US and EU passports.
I think this is tough to answer. I know your timeframe is 1 year, but some (all?) of these cities may still be suffering the effects of the pandemic. From what I hear from friends, NYC isn’t that great right now. I guess I’d go to Seattle if I were you simply because you know some people there.
I think in a year COVID will be mostly not a concern with vaccines.
Fort Polk LN
What’s that?
You're young, affluent, and living in a pandemic. Singapore sounds like a great option as the effects of covid are the smallest of the few. Going abroad is great when young, but London is doing horrible right now.
Yeah. I think COVID will be totally done by the time I plan to make moves. 😬
Miami
Not a bad move!
I love kpop and korean women. Go to singapore and date asian women.
I already do that in the Bay Area.
NYC if Covid improves significantly
Why over SG?
NYC is shit at the moment and London has a high chance of being in a mess due to the new strain and brexit. Seattle may have another CHAZ going up. Singapore is good if you like that kind of city. Capitalism Dictatorship gets things done as long as you don't try to shit on the government.
Good for a year.
is your job remote forever
I can get a new job in 1.5 years
How do you go to London with an EU passport?
Currently you can't because they are having the highest security level there.
Lol EU passport is useless after Brexit. You might as well just use your US passport

330k TC at 25 is impressive. So fuck u What city are u at right now? That which u seek may be right under your nose
I live in the Bay Area. Think Palo Alto, Mountain View, Los Altos. Used to live in SF pre-pandemic.
Guessing you're single. Assuming the pandemic situation is much better by next year, I'd advocate for the locations abroad. I could also do NYC for a year or so. Not much risk. You could move back relatively easy. In terms of new experiences, you'd get more from a different culture/environment. Your age also makes it the perfect time to do this. I'm actually hoping to do the same not too far from now
