Hey, I will be soon joining Bloomberg at the NYC office and will prefer to stay within half hour travel from the office. (one side) Is staying in Hoboken/New Port a good option? Or any other area in NJ, from where I can go to Bloomberg office? I have head really pathetic reviews about PATH, so just curious. Don't wanna stay in NYC and pay extra city tax. NJ rent budget: 2K NYC rent budget: 1.6K (because I will be paying extra tax in NYC) P.S: Asking for a friend. TC at Bloomberg: 160K
But why?? The cost of living would make up for the difference in TC.
Because Seattle/Redmond is shit show And NYC is a world class city?
Pretty sure tax is based on where you work not where you live
NJ and NY have a deal in place I'm pretty sure. I think income tax is the same but sales tax etc is different. But it's been a while since I looked into that so don't quote me
It is based on where you live and work. But you wouldn’t pay city taxes if you don’t live in NYC.
Hoboken is great but it will be at least 40+ minutes because you’ll have to transfer from the PATH to N to get to the office. For $1600 a month you can get a decent room in a 2-3 bedroom apartment, around upper east side and have a 30 minute commute.
Live in the city especially if you are just moving there for first time. Pay the extra and your tax will be out of nyc no matter where you live it’s based on office location. Live as close to the office as you can.
People don’t realize that one has to pay the NYC *city* tax if one lives in one of the five boroughs
I mean you could get roommates. Nothing in Manhattan is that cheap. Consider East Harlem, it's relatively inexpensive, easy to get to Bloomberg, and lovely IMO.
I know less about NJ, but nothing there is that cheap either unless you decide to live in the boondocks and are okay with a 1+ hour commute one way.
Hey I will be joining Bloomberg soon as well. Although I have been working in NYC only. I live in Harrison which is like 50-60 mins commute but u can get a really good appartment for a decent price. Btw curious how many years of experience do u have and which team did u join
Literally no girl under 150lbs will go home with you from the city to Harrison. Don’t move here.
The path is not that bad. It’s more reliable than the subways now
Live at Times Square dude. Live your life right now.
Microsoft isn't all that. Not saying Bloomberg is better but in terms of happiness location plays a big part. For the record Microsoft isn't really in Seattle. It's a 40 min drive away with traffic give or take. 20 with no traffic at all, but it's still very suburban. Different to NYC.
