Where would you live in Bay area?

If you would work in new Apple HQ or nearby, would want to rent a house, and could afford $7-8k monthly rent, where would you live and why?

better than the shitty houses with annoying landlords.

for sure but OP wants to spend 8K on rent 😂💁🏻‍♂️

Somewhere that costed $3k/mo and I’d use that extra $4-5k for literally anything other than rent. Fun ways to use $4-5k - Save up for a trip, strippers+ or cocaine.

Thanks, but I haven't seen anything I would be happy to return to after a day at work for less than $6k. And I value my time too much to drive a long commute.

How many bedrooms are you looking for? Check out Encasa in Sunnyvale. It's a high-end luxury apartment complex.

7k for rent? Is that something that ppl pay?

Depends on whether you have kids going to school. If so you can get good houses in Cupertino or Saratoga. If not you can fantastic houses in Sunnyvale or Santa Clara. All are very short commutes to Apple Park

You can buy a house and pay mortgage/property taxes for it if you can spare $8K a month. Why rent??

Microsoft MyJb12 OP Dec 18, 2019

Moving to the area. I don't want to buy right away, as I might not like the neighborhood after I learn more. And prices are going down 10% per year right now in Bay area, so better wait until I am sure I know where I want to live long term.

Where did you see this statistic of prices going down 10% a year?

Sunnyvale, for 7-8K you can easily find an awesome place within 20 mins walk to work

It's unbelievable how much people are willing to pay to live in the Bay. Blows my mind.

Microsoft MyJb12 OP Dec 19, 2019

1. It's unbelievable that so many are willing to live in the Bay with <$200k TC, when they could make the same money in lower CoL locations. 2. It's unbelievable how much (FAANG) companies are willing to pay to have certain people work for them in the Bay. Do I specifically want to live in the Bay? No. But I am excited about the work I get to do there. Housing is super expensive in the Bay, but I don't care as long as my TC is equally higher. I have budgeted for that. Living in a shack to retire early is not for me.
