Hey everyone I’m graduating in December and have a few offers and wanted to know which seems best? 1) SWE @ small local company. TC ~120k 2) Technical Consultant @ RedHat. TC 110k 3) Google Cloud Technical Resident. TC ~100k 4) AT&T TDP. TC ~110k I was thinking number 1 was best but idk with having google on my resume would it be easy to find another job/internally transfer to SWE/PM work. Thanks in advance for the advice!
What school did you go to ??
I went to a small school in GA not ranked at all
That's why you're excited about all these offers
I think ATT and the local company would be a mistake early in your career when google and red hat are both options. I’d lean google.
Any of these but the Google offer at this stage is a mistake, unless you get a unicorn offer with future IPO potential. Get Google on your resume and see the doors open.
Thanks for this. Does it matter it’s not a SWE role? Also how easy is it to transfer internally
It'll be good for your career even if non SWE. Depends on your role for transfers but it's as large a company as it gets - transfers would be easier than most other places. Worst case move on with higher offers outside.
I think the local SWE or the non-SWE at Google both make sense. I wouldn't worry about the difference in TC. I'm not sure between the two, I might lean towards getting Google on the resume and moving to SWE internally or for your next job. How close are the responsibilities of technical cloud resident to SWE?
Google for the name recognition on resume. The role doesn't seem to be engineering tho
You will not be able to find jobs Internally within Red Hat without talking to your manger first. And I know a Red Hat employee who told his manager he was switching and his manager didn’t support him and didn’t even hold 1:1 for next six months until this guy was searching for job. Shit got stressful for him . One other guy when he revealed he wanted to switch internally, his manager suggested he can shadow job in the team he wants to work for, but before anything could happen, skip level intervened and prevented that citing workload etc. Which was BS. Red Hat culture as company is great but changing jobs could be pain
Tdp is great if you're just in stem and want to end up pivoting to a more technical higher paying role or just want to be a scrum master we will pay you same as a software engineer for saying good morning. Also you can try out a bunch of things. I'd not recommend it for you, you'd still have to work hard to get on an internal team as a swe that isn't doing something awful.
Pass on AT&T. I'd never recommend it to any new graduate ... unless they were just desperate for a job to tide them over until they found a better one. You have choices - make the good choice instead !

Meta vs Google for swe
Congrats! Those are all awesome offers, and I’m guessing the SWE title/role is what you want to grow into, right? If that’s the case, yes I’d also take the first offer, them I’d pick Google and Red Hat
