TLDR: Title. SCENARIO Tomorrow news comes out that we have made a huge breakthrough in medical science allowing the complete mind of a human to be extracted and saved in a data blob. (To avoid arguments about trusting this process, and to provide a certain level of believability, lets say the government has had access to this technology for 15 years, its legit, and they are just now telling us because they realized they can make a lot of money and the last traces of their human testing have been sufficiently covered up.) Due to the size of this data blob (multiple petabytes), the data must be directly uploaded to a major cloud service, and due to the stress this operation causes to the brain, you can currently only do it once. It is expected the ability to upload this sentience into some form of a new artificial brain, effectively providing a route to percieved immortality, will be developed some time in the next 200 years. QUESTION Assuming you are someone who would want to upload your mind (lets try to keep the ‘why would i upload my mind, life sucks’ comments to one ~hilarious~ thread) and had the financial ability to do so, which cloud would you save it in? Why? SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER General: - Cost of operation (set by company) - Safety of brain data (sold/lost/destroyed) - Innovation (companies may develop cool new advances only applicable to minds on their cloud) Specific: - All major cloud services existing right now are capable of completing this procedure immediately. - You can wait for the company you trust the most, or some new company specializing in this, to get their cloud service to a point where it is ready....but you can also get hit by a bus before that happens. - Due to how quickly this news came out, no new laws or regulations have been made to manage this process yet. - Your mind may need to be stored for many many years. - Any misreads or dataloss on the cloud service side could lead to your ‘mind’ being effectively shattered and useless (unless that company could make some complex recreation) - Work is being done so that you can upload an ‘updated’ profile once every X years, but it has to be to the same service where your mind is already located, and that company must do the work necessary to allow this update. Wait, I understand I can only copy the mind once, but after it's copied can't I make backups of that copy?
Potentially, only if that process ends up working and the company owning the cloud you chose correctly implements the software necessary.
Leave the chat, write a script and sell it to some Hollywood director or better yet write a novel
*cough* definitely not getting ideas for the script with this chat *cough*
AWS
A personal server in my basement.
Your server holds multiple Petabytes, if so, fuck yeah....but like who’s gonna know where it is to upload you to a new brain in the future? Or will you be found 3000 years later and be fast forwarded to the far future
