Sounds like more and more companies are considering this. My understanding is that Shopify does this. Any other companies that have this flexibility for a SWE role?

How did FireEye get hacked lol? Are you talking about sunburst? The SolarWinds supply chain hack that MANY companies were victim of? That we were the first to discover?

@FireEye I rescind my comment lol. I had the story backwards. Originally thought it was solar winds who discovered the flaw in FireEye, but I stand corrected.

Workday has this. I believe it’s two months though, and there is a list of approved countries.

Yep, no China and no India. Yes, we have a lot of fully remote folks. TC is on the rise as we try to compete for talent with bigger companies.

Shopify does do it, but it is a really annoying process; they want you to jump through lots of hoops and submit a work permit from the country(ies) you will be working from for approval. You can’t really just say you are travelling for 3 months or decide to work from any country you would like. Probably easier to find a WFH company that doesn’t offer it and ask for forgiveness if anyone says anything.

Depending on the country and where you are from, you can't work a single day in that country or you will have to pay taxes for any single day you spent working there. So yes they care and should care if they make a policy out of it

Yea I agree, if I am spending time working in a different country I am assuming the tax risk. I tried to do it and it was a whole ordeal, I decided to just go and not say I was travelling but they have since added more hoops and an expectation on leads to make sure you are working from your home base.

They want to make sure you aren’t working from somewhere Shopify has offices as well, so I could travel to Florida but not California as a non-resident.

The time zone you work for it is dependent on your team and role, I’m sure most teams would be fine with a time zone switch for the 90 days unless it causes issues.
