Which is the best Health Insurance for Autism Therapies?

I will be joining FB soon (Seattle). I am not in the US right now and don't have much idea about the US health system. I am confused about which policy (PPO/EPP/Kaiser(WA)) to pick considering I have an autistic child who would need regular therapies (many hours per week).

What do the copays ($10) mean? Are they per day of the therapy or per hour? One of the key reasons for us to move to the US is to give our child better therapies. So understanding this is important to us as a family. I will really appreciate your help, particularly if you too have autistic children and know the matter first hand.

I know I can get this information from the centres but they are hard to be contacted from overseas to answer these questions. I tried.

Copays mean per therapy session you will be charged $10. Further you will probably max out individual contributions if you have ABA daily. At least that’s what Kaiser does for us.

No advantage as such. May be you might end up paying more in a PPO as individual max for HMO is lower. As for session timing it depends on ABA company but typically it would be 3-4 hours and insurance will bill you per session.

If it's similar to Google (which I believe it is..) get PPO. There are in and out of network providers, but there is a special case at G where an Autism diagnosis makes everything in network, which means you can basically use whomever you want.

DM if you want more info.

Thank you so much. I was thinking it will be the one as well due to covering both in and out of network. I will DM you.

  • Choose PPO. FB insurance is one of the best. Use the concierge health service as well once you have signed up. They will reach out to you.

I don’t know the specifics for autism but for my family we have high medical needs. Everything was taken care of without no issues.
