I’m at a point in life where I have to make a choice. I have to chose my next route and spend the next 3 months studying hard so I can settle til retirement. Back story: I’m burnt out and hate my job (coding). Been doing this for +10 years. I became a US citizen last year so grinding in exchange for a visa isn’t my motivation anymore. Not chasing promotions i’ve had a few and do not want to become an EM. I made some Ok money (can’t retire yet) so money and high TC means crap to me. Just looking for a purpose in life besides family. Or some excitement since we spend majority of our time at work. Which route would you pick in my case?
TC?
Clever name.
“Non tech job like tech PM” 🧐
Tech PM where your product is an API for example... no coding involved for the PM but tech background required.
If you think FNG will be better in terms of work then you might be seriously mistaken.
Yeah I believe you. It would be my last choice
You need a gap year my friend. You are at the perfectly messed up state to find the purpose of life. Travel for a year and come back as the next Jobs.
I want to do that too... But not sure if I can be employable after a year gone... That and it'll be real hard to get a work visa again :(
Taking a year off in our industry is very dangerous. The hiring process almost takes a year now of prep. The competition is too high. If I take a year off I don’t want to leetcode :/
I am in the same bucket and I don’t know what to do either. Working for FAANG does not excite me anymore and preparing for 4-6 months for these companies, is too hard of a job. I am trying and pushing myself to prepare, but it’s not coming to me very naturally. May be it’s a comfort zone problem. Not sure what is next big thing to work for.
Why not a startup?
Go work for MS. Its a great company for wlb and culture is welcoming.
As a former Softie, I agree with jesus. Plus, the benefits are still very good despite what FAANG people tell you.
Would you recommend MS Redmond? Problem is, I’d have to leetcode still.
