I have a few Echos but I’m uncomfortable with how Amazon treats the user data it collects. With how cheap they are, you just know they’re selling your data to the highest bidder. I was considering an Apple HomePod because Apple respects consumer privacy, but I haven’t heard much about it.

Read this, Google is of course the smartest. https://www.statista.com/statistics/795051/alexa-google-assistant-performance-comparison/ It depends what you want from your speaker. Do you care about accurate info/assistant or prioritize sound quality? I'd say any speaker with Google built in would be the smartest. I own a Google Home Max and can say the sound quality is fantastic.
The thing about being the smartest speaker is users get bored of the “smartness” after 2 days or a week tops. What you need is more 3rd party integration and alexa wins hands down. I own google home and seriously considering to move to alexa.
While I agree that the use case for smart speakers wanes and is a bit limited my expectations aren't very high either aside from being able to play music get news updates, timers etc. What kind of 3rd party integration does Alexa have?
Are those speakers really that useful? Do they make life a lot easier? I’ve never had one.
Have Google and Alexa. Only use Google for my alarm clock, otherwise I never use either.
One thing Amazon does better is trying to keep customer trust, hence not misuse data. It's one of their important LPs.
😂
I used to work for Amazon few years back, customer trust is really emphasized, it's not something that they just say. Of course, this is mainly for Amazon's self-interest, their whole business model needs a lot of customer trust.
How often do you think does anyone who owns any of these "smart devices" actually thinks about the security/privacy aspect of things?
I do and I own one.
Can’t speak for others but Alexa is not steaming all of your data all the time. It’s only when you wake it up. But then you can bulk delete your history and we do clean it up on our server ASAP.
