If you're new to the stock market, I don't recommend buying individual stocks. Try an index fund or ETF through Vanguard or Fidelity. These will track the overall market and expose you to less volatility while still getting healthy gains - and most individual stock pickers don't do better than the overall market anyway.
Obligatory: This is not financial advice, and I am not a financial advisor.
For example, if you believe a specific industry will grow more than others, but aren't enough of an expert to pick specific stocks in that industry, you can select an index or ETF that tracks just that industry. You can also choose if you prefer to track the total US market, total world market, fortune 500, etc. Usually a mix of these things is best, to spread your risk profile.
Individual stocks- Msft, aapl, nvda, square, pypl, adbe
