At first, I was happy not to commute. But my workload has increased, my throat hurts constantly from talking in meetings, I actually have less time to take care of myself then before. Im working 12 hours; which means I am still too tired to exercise or cook. My body hurts from sitting all day because: more meetings. I don’t get my steps/walks. Why is this my truth? Other people seem to be on WFH vacation. I see people working out more and cooking. WTH? Im an extrovert who wont die from social distancing but something during the day has to give. I really dont think some companies understand the strain on their employees. If I had kids, I’d really be messed up. We get extra benefits at work to subsidize our ability to overwork. Without the benefits, shit. And yes I know I should be happy to have a job, doesnt mean I wont burn out either.
It fucking sucks.
Used to work 25-30 hrs a week before lickdown. Niw i work 5-10 hours a WEEK. Similar story on my team and everyone i interact with
Damn. Do y’all have no work or projects? Is there just that little to do? Are there no fires to put out due to Covid19? How is this possible?
Ebay is a sinking ship. We have 5 sde's doing the job of 1, pretty laid back while we still have a job
I spent half of my career before Apple working from home. So I’m confused as to why suddenly I can’t manage it. I loved the freedom of WFH. Now I have 0.
Because you are forced to. People love choice..
Higher role and pay. You probably have more responsibilities now.
Definitely working more, and more asked. It's almost as if employers are abusing the situation, but I know that would never happen under capitalism.
I’m trying not to believe this but... How long until their workforce gets sick from burnout in mass. One burn out here or there is manageable. But full teams who hold all the knowledge.
It's usually pretty good wlb, just right now there is extra stress, I have a family, kids are home, and you know... Pandemic... Work load right now would be manageable normally, but I got a lot on my mind that's not usually there
Learn to say no? Why the sudden increase in meetings? Do you have to attend all of them? Can some of them replaced by an email thread (hint: the answer is yes).
No@Apple? 😂 Typically I have a really good WLB. I speak up when I need time away etc. Thats just not happening right now. I really just have that much to do. I don’t understand it myself. To your answer: Yes, most of meetings I have to attend. It’s the nature of my job. I’ve cancelled a few to catch my breath. I too would say more email is the answer, but no. Adding more email is not going to help decrease my workload This isn’t that bad working in the office. You find me ppl in hallways, you text, you call. But right now we don’t know where anyone is at any given time, so those modes aren’t reliable. So the default is meetings. Even if I don’t setup a meeting someone else will and most of my stakeholders are high-level. Can’t tell them no we can’t meet. Lol You can’t change a company’s culture around over night. Plus, unlike a lot of companies we are really week by week over here. So not sure if they want to.
This is well known at Apple. Apple’s bozo managers take every excuse they get to squeeze work out of you. I am leeting to get the fuck out of Apple.
😂 This happened right when I had to start proving myself for future promotions. The old me would be like F’ this. Now I’m having to play nice and smile and be available I’m the one to blame for this. But it’s expensive out here in the bay, I need higher TC. I don’t make that dev money. Leet coding won’t save me. 😂
What’s your TC?
Get a standing desk, best investment ever but then Tableau gave a $400 wfh stipend. Have a schedule, put it up in the calendar, follow it. Stop working at 6 or 7 whichever seems appropriate to you. That way you have more time.
I’m at Apple. Stipend? 😂 I will try and be more disciplined with my schedule. Unfortunately, with the increased workload in our group (still trying to figure out why it’s increasing during a pandemic), everything gets over blocked by others who are also setting their calendars. Meetings get moved to after 6 because an execs schedule changes. I have conflicts non stop. I can manage me but not others. But I will try.
Yup, stipend, not sure what's funny about it. It's just money to get whatever you want to set up for wfh. I guess everyone is trying to figure out this thing, it's a unique situation. I think it makes sense to accept the fact that productivity takes a hit and hopefully your leadership is okay with it.
Overworked. 100%
200%
Insane amount of work. I hate wfh right now

I have more work (10 hrs - 12hrs ish?) and I work out more (1 hour)... I hope I get to keep my job
I’m really going to add more exercising next week. Block off more time during the day to not work. I just can’t catch a break with my workload.
I try to block out a time for working out. If I eat dinner late because of it so be it, right?
