Metaverse is Facebook's response to tightening privacy restrictions by Apple and Google. These two giants control the entire smartphone OS market. With these restrictions Facebook cannot continue to operate as it affects it's business model. Getting people to use Metaverse requires a fundamental shift in how people use technology. It is hard to get that kind of a shift easily. When mobile phones were launched, it took many years for the ecosystem to develop and move people to the phones. Smart assistants were the next big thing after smartphones. Amazon, Google, Apple and others are pouring billions into this market to make people use these devices more. But even with that kind of spending the technology and people's willingness to use it beyond music, weather and few home automation is not possible. The world's biggest e-retailer Amazon still could not make people buy stuff using Alexa. Facebook's effort is a bold move when faced with an existential crisis, but may not be the right one. #facebook #meta #metaverse TC 390
Sir this is a Wendy's
I have a solution.. Meta should go all in and help Ukraine and zelensky. Western world will make Meta their darling.
My doing what? Sending us in with rifles?
Sending virtual rifles
They need to solve a real world problem for people/ consumers to change their behavior and drive adoption of new technology. I don’t see what they are trying to solve so far…
They are successfully able to attract, influence, and arrest young kids and teens within a toxic delusional world full of cringe crap that generates a lot of money.
I agree. Similarly, Clubhouse was able to attract and influence but it did not solve any problem in people’s life so it died down
Your entire argument’s presumptions are wrong. If you think the Metaverse is a thing now because of the company Meta/Facebook, all it says is you have done 0 research on what’s actually happening in the industry. The metaverse (similar to the way we know the internet to be) will be decentralized. Meta is honestly FOMOing in - it’s been actively worked on for like 3-4 years at least by small start ups you haven’t even heard of. So if you’re only hearing about it because Facebook became meta, you’re bandwagoning on something that’s been already been sufficiently worked on for some time now. It’s not a problem to take it seriously because FB became Meta. But thinking they caused this ‘revolution’ is way off base, as many projects have been actively building here that just aren’t in the traditional tech circle. It’s just not been not within the lens of the typical tech person. Meta’s metaverse will not succeed. All that name change did is validate the metaverse as a concept - a concept that’s already had a ton of work put towards it by many small web 3 start ups.
Not enough people buy things on Alexa, therefore the Metaverse will fail. This is the kind of hard hitting analysis I come to Blind for.
Frankly I haven’t heard any solid argument on why will meta succeed with Metaverse.
They won’t. But they did validate the metaverse as a meaningful thing.
This is how you fail product strategy interview
People who think Meta will fail why not short the stock. Heck take out a loan and use that to short even more. For people who think metaverse is the next big thing, why not buy all of Meta stock? Take out loan HELOC and buy more. Ultimately what you think doesn't matter 1 bit. What matters is if you are going to do something with your analysis.
I think the main reason that the world is not ready for metaverse is lack of quality hardware in AR/VR Have you guys tried Oculus? Try to put it on for 1 hour and you see what I mean.
I know the pain lol
Agreed. Al the doubters are people that haven't tried VR.
I disagree. Once you experience it, you're hooked. It's one of the first tech experiences in years where I said "this is going to solve so many problems" The challenge is going to be getting getting hardware that is convenient and people want to adopt. An example of a startup doing truly useful VR stuff. There's a startup called "help club" that does group therapy and support groups in VR. They have finding from NIH and have done studies showing VR is more effective in helping people open up.
