Why Uber , slack, lyft not opening offices in South Bay.

Everyone wanted to work in new unicorn or recent ipo company , but it’s hard because you have to travel sf and it’s suck, 3 hour commute. I know few travel but if you have family how people manage?

Uber has a Palo Alto office

Amgen Mrmephisto May 18, 2019

What types of roles are in Palo Alto? All SWE? I might see if I can work there like once a week but my role is going to be downtown most of the time.

Uber mach901 May 18, 2019

Mostly SWE but anyone can transfer offices with manager approval

Amazon Northman May 18, 2019

Lyft also has a Palo Alto office

Uber barnacles. May 20, 2019

that's only autonomous driving research

Amazon Northman May 20, 2019

Primarily true, though others work out of that office sometimes and some teams were considering doing more hiring in PA.

In general, they like fresh out of school, not old man having kids

Pssh! They’re missing out. The adventures I have with my seven and four year old are pretty fucking epic. Disney Cruise for life, shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

South Bay is already overflowing. It'd be crazy to open an office down here. It's crazy that Google is building more offices down here

Google atdk May 18, 2019

SF is not overflowing?

Google 🍑☁️ May 18, 2019

Oh SF is too. Companies should be opening offices outside of the bay area

Google FetaCheese May 18, 2019

Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Microsoft 🐙M🐙 May 18, 2019

For the people they want to recruit South Bay offices would be a shitty 3 hour commute

Nvidia samelove May 18, 2019

Because everyone is moving to Seattle

Uber Yol0$ May 18, 2019

South bay is too crowded. And caltrain sucks. At least people can Bart into SF from east bay
