Of the top of my head.. Google Play Music and YouTube Music are trash compared to Spotify. Android Auto is buggy as hell. For a tier 1 tech company attracting the best talent, I cannot comprehend why it's products are such trash.
This is what happens when you let code monkeys and brilliant engineers control UI/UX and product management
I don’t anyone at Amazon should be throwing shade at another company’s UI/UX
Strong technical talent doesn’t always translate to good product design / direction. Products are a concerted effort. It’s also just hard to have consistently good products once you stretch into multiple markets. Google music is only a small division in Google that isn’t seen as a core product. At Spotify the music platform is essentially their entire business.
One of the biggest and most profitable tech companies ever has a couple side projects which are slightly sub par but still hold their own against another company’s competing product which is their primary business. Really?
Agree with the above. I don’t work at Google but every product feels like it was designed by a developer and not a UX person. From what I read there is also a culture of ship a product, then get promoted to a new team and abandon the old one. No one wants to do incremental maintenance on projects because that doesn’t get attention so they are abandoned after launch.
android TV and chrome books are shit products. They suck!
Have you ever used Google photos or Google maps?
Made the switch from Spotify Premium to YouTube Premium... YouTube Music could be a lot better. But they have a LOT of best in class products. Maps, photos, mail, SEARCH.
YT music could be a lot better in what aspect?
There are a lot of minor annoyances: - When I'm looking at my play queue, I can't remove a song in the queue, only move it up or down. - When I get a call, the music pauses, when I answer the call the music resumes playing (WhatsApp call) - When I get back in my car and my phone connects to Bluetooth, my music doesn't continue. Used to happen on Spotify. That's just what I can remember off of the top of my head. But I'm constantly frustrated while using the app. Still, I'm gonna stick with it believing that it will improve. Don't think Google will scrap this one.
"Users" vs "Customers" You're the product.
Google thinks top talent means good at leetcode, search is so successful it doesn’t matter who works on it. Those code monkeys can’t create value from scratch, they can only enhance valuable products
What the fuck is this code monkey thing? And what the fuck is wrong. They hire a software engineer who wants to code based on their coding skill. What else? Hire a sde based on their product management skill? All this name calling for me is a sign of salty / jealous / couldn't clear the interview people
Have you read blind? All these engineers are doing is memorizing leetcode. Google is starting to feel the ramifications from poor products. They’re code base is also horrific.
They can’t complete a single product.
