Why are engineers too much of a bunch of pushovers to unionize?
If there was a general strike of all FAANG engineers we can get a 4 day work week tomorrow. We get ao wrapped in career development and chasing numbers that we don't notice how are lives are being sapped away. No time with our families. No time for hobbies. No time for anything but code and worry. The internet would stand still if we simply decided this treatment is inhuman. We are smart people, for a bunch of second-house-buying-capitalists y'all sure let yourselves get shit on.

Why pay a middleman to add no value?
You realize that the internet would stand still if there was a strike? The idea is that it couldn't get us any value is preposterous.
1) You do get value, prob $250K TC 2) There are several million Indians/Chinese who could easily replace your skill set
Unions are born from severe exploitation and suffering. We don’t have lives that hard compared to other industries.
But we have massive leverage over them, why not use it?
We don’t have any leverage at all. Software engineering is not that hard and there are thousands of foreign workers ready to take our spot. This isn’t brain surgery or rocket science.
Internet wouldn’t stand still, more jobs will be created in Asia. So stop being entitled little prick. Your pay corresponds to the effort that is required. If you feel your are getting underpaid, talk to your management. If you posting here , you are already in the top 2% of the world, there are more better reasons to rant and unionise.

Why would you want a 4 day work week? That means less fun.
I worked for a place that had a union before, never want to do it again. It basically protected incompetence and gave managers an excuse to do nothing. Plus we are very well compensated with a lot of perks. Come join Adobe if Amazon WLB doesn’t sit well with you. You already hold all the cards you can vote with your feet without holding the internet or anyone else hostage.
Given the change in law where employees aren’t forced to sign up for a union, I fully endorse you forming a union and negotiating the fuck out of a great deal that I get the benefit of without paying dues for.
