Moved to Seattle to start new job in Jan. Moved from a small Midwest town. Initially I was so excited because of the tech scene in Seattle. It seemed like a great place to meet other FAANG techies. Where I used to live, there was no tech scene. Fast forward to today. Been to 20-30 tech Meetup events. Every fucking one of them is filled with newbies like bootcamp people, or crap tier company (not FAANGMULA). If there's decent tier people it's usually Microsoft or Amazon, but that's very rare. Wtf man? What am I doing wrong? Why are all these tech events filled with losers? Where do the cool kids hang out? TC $265k, L63, 9 yoe.
Well I’m at home watching the stock fall and getting ready to buy like there’s no tomorrow
LMFAO
They don't go to meetups
Real people have lives man, wifes, husbands, kids and real activities to do in their days than to hangout with people after work to talk about work!
Meetups blow
Are you"cool?" I believe the best way to meet cool people is to be passionate and work cool things yourself, and then to meet people within that space and then branch out. Passionate people like to meet and make introductions to other passionate people
Ive had better luck meeting people in activity groups like climbing clubs, ski groups, improv....the work related people are usually from panels Ive gone to with interesting speakers; or people I have reached out to 1x1
They might not need to attend meet ups because faang brings in speakers to enrich tech workers lives. Also faang hires research positions, so they can always share their work internally
Guess what, OP. You’re one of the tech meetup “losers“ too.
those bootcamps encourage their students to attend meetups to network for jobs. ppl with jobs already are busy working
In blind?
