Cant crack FAANGMULLA
To actually get to work with smart people
More risk, higher potential reward. Way more fun. You get to see a company grow and all the challenges that come with that. Still early in my career, want to optimize for learning more than anything
I wanted to build my own startup some day. But I wanted to get some startup experience first.
Because there are so many bs political thing in the big companies. In a startup you can focus on doing things.
Having been at Amazon, Goog and a bunch of non faangs, I can attest there is no better place to do things without running into "organizational boundaries" than a startup. Ofcourse at some point you gotta need the money and at that point you kill your desires and join a big co!
I joined this startup because I was excited about the social networking space, as well as technical challenges of scaling infrastructure to support the fast paced growth. I did not care as much about the comp or upside, but it turned out to be a wise choice.
Employee number 2 at Facebook
I was at a startup before going to Google. I really thrive in a chaotic environment where I get to wear many hats. From writing code one day to managing a project the next. It was fun - and fortunately in my earlier days at Google we still had that culture.. not so much anymore
Cause they were willing to sponsor my Visa 😂
Lol good point, same here
LinkedIn told me they don't sponsor in most non-eng orgs now, it sucks.
- To learn - opportunity to wear multiple hats - work with a bunch of brilliant people - of course with the hope of making big bucks someday too But you need a lot of patience!!
Very much like yourself. I found myself spinning my wheels in retail. I had a lot of self-taught knowledge that was going to waste, but I couldn’t land a job at a place like FAANG without proper credentials. A startup was the perfect place to gain more experience in many areas and work as a good platform for my next step... or maybe I stay here for the long haul. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Same, and less political environment
