Can't say I've seen a car os that's impressed me, Android is open source or maybe they can work something out with Apple? Google and Siri (limited experience with Alexa) are far from perfect with some of the best in the industry working on them, why spend r&d in this industry, when they can outsource them?
They want to control their own in car experiences. If everyone had Alexa Siri or Google the perception is it would devalue the brand or worse they'd lose control of the value proposition of the brand.
I guess this does make sense. My thinking was if they had the best os and best va they'll been seen as having the best of everything. Or even better, they should turn their infotainment into docking stations, so anyone can dock with their own rigs
They want to own the underlying data. Incorporating a 3rd party OS almost always means handing over all data that gets collected. I believe this is the primary reason why the Waymo/Ford partnership didn't work out
I had no idea about this either. So do all Samsung and LG phones share data with Google (inherently without Google apps)?
Unless they're forking off of the AOSP when they create their customized version of the OS (even then I'm not 100% sure that data sharing doesn't take place, especially if you sign in with your Google account), I imagine they're still collecting data in some way, shape or form.
Me: As a consumer, all I wanted in a car is a big display and integrated controls. All the rest is superfluous. Manufacturers: You don't say!? Here my own shitty OS, with a bunch of shitty apps that don't do anything that you need. And the ones that do, do it our way.
