Why do companies open offices in SF?

As opposed to Silicon Valley. Do they think younger employees are more desirable? But I doubt that even among the young majority would prefer to live in SF. I feel quite depressed - failed both GOOG and FB interviews, and Netflix, somehow, never even got interested in me. And all the "cool" startups seem to be in SF...

Their investors have politician's pockets to fill. So they pay these ridiculous prices so they can keep those connections.

Because SF is fun. Sunnyvale? Not so much.

Actually, I don't like Sunnyvale either. But Campbell / Los Gatos / San Jose (this part) is quite nice.

Many people prefer to live and work in a city, with all of its perks. SF has issues, yes, but for many people it is more enjoyable than the suburban sprawl. Food, culture and commute are better. In addition, there are innovation network effects to dense urban environments.

SF is a total shithole. I don’t understand it either OP

eBay WhatTheH Aug 14, 2018

Always had this question. Why can't they have more offices down?

Salesforce Zzzzz... Aug 14, 2018

Having an office in peninsula is so 2000, SF is sucking all the best employers even with its own issues. Wait for another 5 years, you'll see more gradual move.

The valley is 2000 and late. The build demo lives in sf.

It’s where the talent wants to work. A 20 minute door-to-door commute on public transit and dining and shopping within walking distance leaves a lot of free time for quality of life.

The thought of living in any of those MacSuburbs on the peninsula makes me want to shove a pencil in my ear.
